Flooring for Stairs

Bring style to every step

Stairs are a prominent feature of the home and can help connect the look of a hallway with the rooms above. You may want to carry a similar wood tone across both levels or use a contrasting finish to give the staircase its own character. Explore the products here for ideas, then check whether the exact flooring can be installed on stairs.

What should you check before choosing stair flooring?

A staircase has different requirements from a flat room. The tread, riser and exposed front edge need a suitable fitting method and finishing components. Even if a product appears in a stair category, confirm its stair installation instructions, the compatible nosing and any slip-related guidance before ordering. Laminate flooring and other materials can have different stair details from one range to another.

Measure and plan the finish

Measure every step rather than assuming the whole staircase is identical. Think about how the floor will meet the landing and any adjacent rooms, and allow for the specified fixings and trims. A sample can help you compare the colour against your bannister and skirting before committing to a full staircase.
